The paper accepted for presentation is Early Detection of Emerging Faults in Precision Sports: Operating Characteristics of a Sequential Detector over Irregularly Spaced Athlete Self-Reports.
About the paper
Long-term athlete development depends not only on identifying early ability but on understanding how athletes respond to training over time. In precision sports, small repeated execution errors compound: caught early they are correctable, left unattended they consolidate into habit.
Detecting them still relies largely on manual review of session records, which does not scale to large squads with scarce coaching attention. This paper formalises early detection as sequential detection of onset in a recurrent event process observed through sparse, irregularly spaced self-reports, and derives the operating characteristics of a detector for ISSF shooting athletes.

Presenting at MathSport Asia places Shoot Gold's research alongside other applied work at the intersection of mathematics and sport, and gives the underlying methodology a venue for scrutiny by researchers working on similar problems outside precision shooting.
